A River From Our Hike

This was Brandon's favorite view from our hike.

This and That

I ran 7.1 today, in perfect running weather. What a great day! I am hoping to get another long run in this weekend... we will be out of town, so we'll see how that goes.

I'm wondering about my shoes. I thought I was done with the left foot pain, and that is creeping back in both pairs of shoes. The Sauconys are hurting my calves, but I'm wondering if I need the stability of them every once in awhile. I've been avoiding them lately. I really can't imagine that either pair is worn out, since they each have around 200 miles on them, and I weigh about 115. Hardly what I would call big enough to be wearing my shoes out sooner.

I'm finding the enthusiasm to get out there and run is waning a little bit lately. I'm not sure why, but it could be partly because of feeling a little overwhelmed with other things in my life right now. Sometimes running helps that, but other times it's just one more thing I need to get done.

I'm loving this fall weather. I know the picture at the top will shock any of my regular readers, since I have been too lazy to post any pictures yet on this blog... but I have to share a picture I took on that 8 mile hike we went on a couple of weeks ago. It's just too beautiful not to share. I love fall! Love love love it!!!
I put pictures on some of my other posts, so you can go back and reread them all, now that they're so much more interesting!

I Love Autumn

This is another picture from our hike. I wish fall was half the year! I love red fall leaves... I could look at trees like this for the rest of my life and probably not miss the green trees. Okay, maybe I might start missing them after 10 years or so...

A Bear Came to Visit

Yes, a black bear came to visit our neighborhood. My neighbor's little girl saw it right in front of our house, and they treed it 3 houses down. The news people are here and everything, so I'll post the news footage when it's available.

And...here it is:
Cub Captured In Rigby Neighborhood
By Kristy Kircher

Better look before you leap, a bear might just be blocking your path.
In Rigby another black bear was spotted running through a residential area.
Quite a rarity to see this many bears in local neighborhoods. But over the past 6 months, Local News 8 has reported 13 different bear cases, and their encounters with people.
Seven of which, were in the month of September alone.
After about thirty minutes of climbing trees, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, along with Idaho Fish and Game, were able to capture this cub-of-the-year black bear.
"It's unusual in this hot dry area. We've lost a lot of berries that's what we're looking for normally and, what made him wonder this far away from the mountains I couldn't tell you," says Clark Shackelford, Idaho Fish and Game.
The cub was found wondering the east side of Rigby.
Officers cornered the baby bear, and with no place to go, the cub headed up.
Andrew Sorensen, of Idaho Fish and Game, climbed the tree in hopes to get the bear back down.
"They think they can hide at the very top and if you just keep taking them to the top then eventually they have no where to go," says Andrew Sorensen, Idaho Fish and Game.
Sorensen looped a catch pole around the cubs neck, and began to drag the animal down the tree.
With the help of co-worker Clark Shackelford, the two men were able to ground the bear, and cage him.
"The little guys should be more scared of us. They just want to find a place to hide and eat in comfort," says Shackelford.
As of now, the cub will be sent up to a lab in Boise, from there specialists will determine where the bear will end up.
Officers advise not to leave any food outdoors or do anything that might entice bears to your neighborhood.
It has been a dry summer and bears are looking for food to hibernate.

A Bear!

Breaking news to add to the last post!!! My friend just called me to tell me that the sheriff has a bear treed right near my house. Right by where I ran past just a couple of hours ago. And my next door neighbor said her little girl saw it...right in front of my house!!!! Maybe I should rethink this rural thing....
I just added the picture. It's just an itty bitty thing...although I'd probably freak out if I was out there and ran into it, because I'd be wondering where its mama was!

Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road?

I'm back!!! Yay! I ran 4.9 miles today, and it felt GOOD! I still feel slightly under the weather, but hell if I'm going to let that stop me this week.

When I was about a mile into my run, the sun was coming up over the mountain. It was so beautiful, and so inspiring. I just ran towards it and soaked it in. Then, I saw a movement. The sun was in my eyes, so it took me a moment to realize that it was......yes, a CHICKEN! Running across the road! Right in front of me! It struck me so funny, and really made my run. (The fact that I didn't see one single loose dog also helped the awesomeness of this run.) I love that I live in a place where I can see a chicken running across the road on my morning run. This somewhat rural place I live in is becoming less and less rural by the day. When we moved in we were a small subdivision surrounded by fields. Now we are a small subdivision surrounded by large subdivisions. Now, don't get me wrong, there are some great people moving in, and I'm glad to have them as neighbors, but there are the days that I mourn my views of fields.

Years ago Mr. Blue Eyes and I found our dream building lot. You got to it by driving on a lane up a hill, through a field. There was an extremely old house there, beyond repair, but it had trees around the house. When you were standing on this land, you could look out across the valley and see patchwork fields forever. It was so beautiful! This land wasn't really for sale, but I still dream that it could be mine someday. I love small towns, fields, open spaces, and yes, I have even grown to smile at those farm smells that my husband loves. I'd much rather fill my lungs with the sweet smells of the country as I run past fields and cows, than fill my lungs with the fumes of exhaust. So, chickens, come on out! You can run with me anytime!

One of our Best

We went camping to Palisades Creek last week. It was an incredibly gorgeous time of year, and the weather could not have been better!!! We got a prime camping spot, which NEVER happens for us (we usually aren't looking until 9:00 on a friday night.) We arrived at the campground, gathered some wood, got the camper all set, and I made Italian Stew for dinner. It was delicious, and the kids loved it! The next morning we had pancakes and eggs and got ready for the big hike! This picture of Cooper and Brandon was near the lake on our hike. Cooper was so cute! He kept copying whatever Brandon did...
This lake (lower lake) was our hike destination. We hiked a little ways towards it last year, and have had the goal to make it all the way there. It was an 8 mile hike when all was said and done, but the kids did so great!!! You would not have believed little 6 year old Cooper's stamina. He was the leader all the way down, and he kept us going at a pretty good pace!

The leaves were incredible! I was carrying the camera and kept getting behind because I had to stop and take pictures. The pictures on here are a fraction of the pictures we took. I'll have to post some more sometime.

The whole hike was breathtaking. There was not an ugly sight to be seen! Both sides of the canyon were covered in color.
Aubrey picked up tons of different colored leaves. She kept getting behind too, because there's always another pretty one! She'll love that I posted this picture of her bum.

The kids "took turns" with the binoculars during the hike. You might call it "fought over" the binoculars. Of course the last half of the hike nobody wanted them anymore, and guess who got to carry them the rest of the way down? Yup, mom. Who needs binoculars? I can see that it's pretty without 'em!
Aubrey and Cooper at the campground. On our way home from camping it started to rain. How's that for timing? Last year when we tried to camp here, it rained like crazy...during our camping time! We stopped in Swan Valley on the way home for a square ice cream cone. The perfect ending for our perfect camping trip!

Sick!

I've run 4 miles this week. 4!!! That's it! I've had this nasty cold, and other stuff that you don't want to read about. I've run before when I'm sick, but I just couldn't do it this week. Next week...I'll tear up the road.

This is the Stuff...

That Brandon takes pictures of. That's his job...lights, lights and more lights. We went to the Parade of Homes and he was so proud of every house that he did the lights in. It was fun!

Our First Camper Campout

These are pictures from our first camping trip in our "new" camper trailer. We went by Table Rock campground. It was a lot of fun...except for the mice that got in our camper. Brandon kept jumping out of bed all night and pounding on the walls. He didn't know how I could possibly sleep with the sound of mice in the walls, but I said, "I'm tired, there's nothing I can do about it, so I would like to sleep." I could've slept through the mice, but not through Brandon's shenanigans!
Aubrey, Tyler, and Cooper by a fence near the campground.

On our little hike.

Here it is! Our new "home away from home"-- a 1987 Wilderness trailer.

Go Figure

Why can I run 10 miles and feel great, but struggle all the way through a 4 mile run? I don't really feel like I get in the groove until about mile 3, so I think that's why I enjoy the longer runs so much more. When I've been running around an hour, I feel like I could do anything. The problem is, I don't have an hour or more to run every day. I guess I'll have to struggle through these shorter runs, so I have the ability to do those longer runs.

Hiking

I went camping with the family this past weekend, and we ended up going on an 8 mile hike. It was gorgeous breathtaking scenery, and a fun hike. I was quite amazed by the different muscles it took, though! I know I can run 8 miles without much of a problem, but I was TIRED by the time we got done with this hike. I'm a little stiff today, too. Maybe this means I need to do more cross-training?

Jason and Dallas

Jason and Dallas's wedding day. The place they had it was beautiful. As you can see, Ashley and Olivia looked cuter than cute, and Olivia was hilarious as the flower girl. Congratulations, Jason! I still don't know how you snagged such a girl! ;)
Here's the whole fam damily. Don't we look good? Tyler was not allowed to stand in the front. His mother accidentally packed the pants that were WAY outgrown. I don't know how he walked with those pants on. It was extremely embarrassing for his mother.

Ah, the food was to die for! Here we are pigging out like crazy.

Dad and Mindy chatting on the floor. Yes, there were chairs...

Grandpa and Grandma Howell... it was so nice to see them!!!
Dad and Mom walking down the aisle... don't trip!

Mindy, Kevin, and Brenda looking cute for the camera.

Here's the cuter than cute couple, Jason and Dallas! It was fun to be there for their wedding. Dallas looked beautiful, as always, and Jason looked like himself! ;) (Which is extremely handsome, of course!)

Dallas's bridal pictures. Jason took them...aren't they great? Although it's easy when the person you are taking pictures of looks great so easily.

Tanner and Leisha

Tanner and Leisha coming out of the temple looking gorgeous!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!

I wish I knew what they were making this face at!

And they're going to live...happily forever after!

What the rest of us were doing....

We had to keep ourselves busy somehow during Tanner and Leisha's Big Day. Josie is dancing on the floor. It might have been after the incident with Cassie's skirt coming down...
This was before the deskirting of Cassie. She might be worried about it happening, though....

My goofy smile.

But not as goofy as Holly's....

The "girls"... Sheri, Lynda, Grandma Jarvis, and Renee

Oh, don't cry, Trey...it's okay!

Miss Model Girl, posing for the camera. Work it, Melissa!

This is Miss Model Girl's daughter. Can you see the resemblance? (Josie and Tyler)

Hannah and Mom. Aren't they beautiful?

This is Miss Model Girl's sister. Enough said. ;)

Fishing in Canada

Brandon and I got to go to Canada on a big fishing trip this past summer. It was SO beautiful!
This was the boat we spent our days in. I got a wee bit of the seasickness...

Brandon reeling in a big one! (Or maybe just another darn rock cod!)

Isn't it a beauty? Not me, silly...the fish! The guy behind me was our guide.

These little deer just ran around the lawn of the lodge. It was really crazy at first, then you just got used to it. They had no fear of people.

This was the helicopter we came in to get to Queen Charlotte Lodge...it was that remote!

And here it is Queen Charlotte Lodge. Can you believe we got to stay here? It was incredible.

Foot Obsession

I'm sitting here admiring my matching blisters on each foot, made even more beautiful today by my 9 mile run. I don't really remember ever thinking about my feet as much as I have since I started running about a year and a half ago. If I stub my toe, I think, "Oh no! Is that going to affect my running this week?" The other day I dropped a plate on the top of my foot, and it hurt like the dickens! I got a bruise from it, and yes, I worried that it might affect my running. I think about the shape of my feet, my arches, my toes, my toenails.... it's ridiculous.

So, all of this thinking about feet causes the obsession to spread to shoes. Before I started running I thought I wore a size 6 shoe, and a running shoe was a running shoe. Now, if you're a runner you're totally going to understand this shoe thing...if you're not a runner, you'll think I'm crazy. I found out I don't wear a size 6 running shoe, and not even a 6 1/2. (6 1/2 was okay until I ran a hilly half marathon. My toenails are still not fully recovered over a year later.) No, I wear a monstrous looking 7. I bought a pair of Mizunos, and suffered for 3 weeks before I took them back. Then I was talked into an even MORE expensive pair of Asics. Disaster! My feet were dying! So, somehow I lucked out and worked out a trade with another runner on a discussion board, and she was the proud owner of a nearly new pair of $130 Asics, and I was the proud owner of a nearly new pair of New Balance 1060 size 7. Amazingly enough, they have been the best shoes I've ever tried, and the Asics worked great for her. I was also convinced to buy a pair of Sauconys by an "expert" at a shoe store. They work okay, but I have to live through 4 miles of calf pain before I can enjoy the run. So, I wear the NB's most of the time..even though they cause blisters.

So, that's what runners do. We obsess about shoes. We spend more on a pair of running shoes than we'd even THINK about spending on another pair of shoes. But, there is a plus to all this shoe obsession... now I'm obsessed with cute dressy heels! I've got to show off my gorgeous runner's legs, right? ;)

Unbelievable

I found out that people actually read this blog. Wow. ;) So, I guess I should be more diligent in updating, so those couple of readers I have don't get extremely bored and quit looking. :)

I Can't Do it Yet

Today when I got back from my run, I thought I'd maybe try the cold bath thing and see if it really did help with the muscles. So, I started running the cold water...got all undressed...dipped my toe in and said, "Uh uh, no way, NOT going to happen." The toe was enough. I'll stick with warm baths, thank you very much. Maybe someday I'll get brave enough, or sore enough, to give it a try, but today was decidedly NOT that day.

Ummm...how far is this?

I decided today to have Mr. Blue Eyes drop me off approximately 10 miles from home on his way to work. Then I can see new things, the whole run will be heading towards home... sounded like a great idea. So, he's driving...and driving....and I'm like, so that's been about 5 or 6 miles, right? And he looks over, sly grin on his face, and says, no....3. Three!!! So, I'm trying to act all tough, like this is nothing, and he keeps driving. I finally dared say, "Maybe 8 would be okay." He is really laughing at me at this point. It really freaks you out when you realize how far you are really running! So, at the stop sign to get on the highway, he stops and says it's as far as he'll take me. 8 miles from home. Now, I've run 8 miles before many times. I ran 10 last week! It just seemed so much farther for some reason! But, I got running, and it actually flew by, and before I knew it, I was in familiar running territory. In fact...I might just try that tactic again sometime!

What is WRONG with me?

I have been running...I've just been slacking in the posting. Sorry for all of my regular readers. Okay, fine, so I don't have any regular readers. A girl can pretend, can't she? ;)

Anyway... today is my day off of teaching violin lessons. Yay! These days go by WAY too fast. So, I decided to go run some errands, go shopping a little bit, you know, a day "in town". I went to my favorite place, Target, and looked around. For a very long time. I saw a cute skirt, and found my size, picked it up, held it for awhile...and put it back. I found some comfy looking pants, found my size, looked at all the colors, picked it up, thought of trying it on, and put it back. I looked at some hats... conductor style, black, camo, white... tried every one of them on, and put them back. I looked at makeup cases, because right now I'm using my daughter's old scripture case for my makeup. I picked them up, unzipped, unsnapped, unlatched, looked inside, envisioned my makeup inside...and put every one of them back. I picked up lip plumper, mascara, eyeliner, and put them back. I looked at workout clothes for running--thought about how I'd like a shirt a little bit warmer, debated about the colors...and walked away. Finally, I went back to the hats, grabbed one, and held on to it. I had to fight myself every step of the way, because that voice in my head was telling me that I didn't need it...I should just put it back. But guess what? I won. I got the hat. So there, little voice in my head.

Gratitude

10.3 miles today...
Thank you for my legs, for their strength, and reliability. Thank you for my lungs, that can breathe easily for over 1 1/2 hours. Thank you for my heart that keeps on beating and getting stronger the longer I go. Thank you for my determination, endurance, and will to do things that make me feel good about myself. Thank you for giving me the ability to run, and making my body able to strengthen and renew itself. Thank you for the beautiful sunshine and cool breezes today. Thank you for the smell of crisp fall air, and the feel of tingling skin. Thank you for the blue sky and for the beautiful trees, fields, and mountains. Thank you for letting me see that cute house with the inviting front porch. Thank you for my daydreams and excitement for life. Thank you for not letting any dogs bother me today. Thank you for my faith and love for You. Thank you for another beautiful day, and thank you for sharing my run with me.

The Extra Mile

Today I ran...the extra mile! Actually the extra 2.5 or so. I ran in a new place... the greenbelt around the river, and it was very pleasant! It's so nice to run in new places, and see new things, and most of it was really pretty. So, I made it back to my car in 40 minutes, and I stopped, and then thought, heck, why not run another one of the loops? So, I just started running again and ran another 25 minutes. I was proud of myself, because usually I just run the planned amount and stop.

National Stupid Dog Owner Day

Dear Fellow Idahoans,

If you own a dog, please read the following. I realize that we live in a somewhat rural area, but nevertheless, you have neighbors, and lots of them. You live in an area where people like to run, walk, bike, scooter, and enjoy the roads. You may think that it's just fine to let your big dogs run free, because they like it, and they don't bark at YOU. You may think OTHER people let their big dogs run free, so you might as well do it too. I am letting you know that it is NOT okay. It is not courteous, not being neighborly, and not being smart. Do you know that if your dog bites me and causes a problem, I will sue your a$$ so fast? Do you know that your dog could bite and seriously harm a small child? Do you CARE?!! When I go for a run and I have 8 dogs run out at me, 2 or 3 at a time, it is not fun, it scares the shiP out of me, and I'm sick of it. If your sweet pooches think it's okay to run into the middle of the road and run after a defenseless runner, who is nearly the same size as your sweet darlings, and they won't back off until a car comes and forces them to the side and waits until the defenseless runner has gotten away before driving off (thank you thank you whoever you are!) then it is NOT okay to leave them unfenced and unchained. Put your damn dogs away. You're not the only one who lives here. If I am forced to, I will buy mace and I will use it on your precious dogs without mercy, and I will not feel sorry.

When the Going Gets Tough

I was out of town for Labor Day weekend, but I still managed to squeak in a 3 mile run on Monday. I got Mr. Blue Eyes to go with me, and Grandma and the kids came along for a walk/ bike ride. It was fun! Almost like playing... especially since Mr. Blue Eyes decided to start out too fast and I kicked his bum in the end. I gave him a nice informative lecture on racing. It's all about the strategy, baby. He is getting faster, though, and I know if he was consistent, he'd be able to get faster than I am (which is oh-so-fast!).

I also had a few very stressful moments in my weekend with family...and all I wanted to do was get away and run. It made me realize how much of a stress reliever running is for me. I don't notice it much in my everyday life, but when the going gets tough, that's what my body wants to do. I didn't think going for a long run in flip flops in 100 degree weather without any water would be a good idea, though. I should pack an emergency running bag and carry it with me at all times...just in case!

Take THAT excuse monster!

I ran 9.1 miles today, and I started in the rain! That excuse monster tried to tell me that it was raining, and I would get wet, but I didn't pay any attention to him. I just put on my shoes and ran! It was awesome. The last 1 1/2 miles felt especially great, and I had moments of feeling like I was flying. Yeah, maybe I was hallucinating, but if it feels good, who cares? I felt like I still had something left in me, which was a good feeling after 9 miles. I am a little concerned about my feet...I'm going to have some blisters. I think this might be my wake up call to get rid of the cotton socks! I just am really struggling with the $10 for ONE pair of socks thing.

The Things I Ate

I'm sitting here, at 11:00 p.m., and I am really wanting something to eat. I did not eat very good today, and I'm hoping it won't affect my run tomorrow. Let's see... breakfast I did okay. I ate All Bran with yogurt clusters. Lunchtime things start going downhill. I ate 2 chocolate bonbons and a granola bar. I did eat a peach later! Then for dinner I ate deep fried scones with honey and powdered sugar. Yes, that is what I ate today. I don't know where the vegetables are! I don't know where the protein is! Quit picking on me!

Excuses, Excuses

I think most of us are really really good at something. And that something is making excuses. Usually when it comes to running, I'm a pretty stick-to-it kind of girl. Early on Saturday mornings (my usual long run day) my legs start tingling, and I just HAVE to get out of bed and run. As much as I'd like to sleep in, my legs won't let me. On other days I get out there and run, because I know the guilt just ain't worth it. I'll think about it all day if I don't, so I just have to go do it.

Which brings us here...to my land of running excuses that I have been living in lately... It's getting darker earlier, I am afraid of the dogs in the dark, Mr. Blue Eyes doesn't want me running alone in the dark, I have to teach violin lessons early so I can't run when the sun does come up, it's too hot by the time I'm done with violin lessons, I'm hungry at dinnertime, so I have to eat, and I can't run on a full stomach after dinner, plus I'm just worn out and tired in the evenings, so I just can't..... anyway, I'm making myself sick just listening to my own excuses in my head. Other runners work, other runners eat, other runners' suns go up and down every day, other runners live in hot places, and they RUN.

So, here is to the end of my excuses. I'm finding a way, and I'm running 4 days a week, come hell or high water. You all are my witnesses.

Who Let the Dogs Out?

Now is as good a time as ever to share my dog stories, right? I have a problem with dogs. A big problem. I don't like them anymore. I was never a big dog fan, but now I'm a big scaredy cat when it comes to dogs. I already shared the bite in the bum story, which was fun, so I thought I'd share a few more canine incidents.

I decided for awhile that I should try to get our chocolate lab, Trout, to learn to run with me. He weighs almost what I do, so this is a little tricky. I had to take him on a leash, and I think my arms got more of a workout than my legs. So, this one time, I'm running along the road, and this neighbor's dog (most annoying dog EVER) runs out and starts running around me in circles. So, of course, Trout has to chase him. Can you see where this is going? I could too, but it happened too fast for me to do anything about it. The leash is wrapped around me, and Trout bolts off. My legs came right out from under me, and I landed directly on my bum cheek. Hard. I had the biggest bruise forever! Needless to say, that was Trout's last run with me.

Then another time, I'm running down the road, blissfully enjoying my music, and all of a sudden, there's a dog at my feet. It's a little teeny yippy thing, and I screamed and jumped about a mile UP. It was such a loud scream, and I was so embarrassed because the owners were sitting right there on their lawn. I didn't even look at them. I just kept on running. Stupid yippy dogs.

A scary time was when I was running on a new road that I hadn't been on before, and all of a sudden about 20 dogs (okay, it seemed like 20...it was probably more like 8) start running out at me barking. I'm really thinking this is the end of my life, and I had no idea what I was going to do. How do you fight off 20 (okay, 8!) dogs at once? Right about when I saw my life flash before my eyes, the owner comes out and calls them back. I was a little shaky running for awhile, but I made it home.

Well, there are a million more dog encounters, but that's the basic idea. Most of the time I can get them to stay back with my yelling and rock threatenings. I only actually ever hit a dog with a rock once. Not for lack of trying...I'm just a really bad aim. The one time I hit one, though, was right between the eyes. Totally coincidental, I know, but it looked like I meant to! That dog leaves me alone now. Mr. Blue Eyes says to kick the dogs, but I do NOT want to let a dog get that close to me!

Running Fears

Today when I was running my 5.7 miles, with my calves killing me, and eventually my shins deciding to join my calves... (Mr. Blue Eyes said it must've been my new shorts that caused this...) I had to do something to distract myself. So, I made a mental list of the things that I fear most when I go out running. Here they are, for your reading enjoyment. Go ahead and laugh at me. I know you will.

#1 I'm going to poop my pants. Yes, this is fear #1...or should I say, number 2... Sometimes when I'm running, it gets things, well, moving. And I'll be running for miles, looking longingly at every bush and tree I pass, wondering if I dare use it. I asked someone I barely know if I could use their bathroom once. This was completely mortifying. She had to make her husband hurry out of the shower so I could use their bathroom. I was like, "No, it's fine! I'll just leave! Don't make him get out!" And she insisted. I thought I was going to die of absolute embarrassment. That is why I don't make pit stops at people's houses. And, to justify why this is my #1 fear, I will admit...it happened once. I didn't make it home. 'Nuff said.

#2 I'll get bit by a dog. This too, has happened to me. That's what makes it my second greatest fear. I was just running along, minding my own business, and this boxer comes up behind me and bites my butt. It wasn't a mean bite...it didn't break skin or anything, but it scared me to death! There are tons of dogs around here, and I've had plenty of run-ins with them. Sometime I'll dedicate a post completely to dog stories, so you can laugh at how silly I am. Whenever I get near a house with a loose dog (I know most of them by now), I pick up a couple of rocks, make myself look real big, and yell at the dog. I don't know if this is confronting my fear or not...

#3 Some weirdo is going to grab me. Thankfully, this has NOT happened to me. If it had, it would be fear #1, and I would probably be running on a treadmill. I imagine the scenario out in my mind, though, so if it ever happens, I'll be ready. First, I'll use one of the moves I learned in Karate. I will skillfully twist out of his grip, kick him in the jimmy, and use my extensive running skills to get the heck out of there. In reality, I'm kidding myself. I'm 5'2", 115 pounds...and I'm helpless if Mr. Blue Eyes even tickles me. If you are a weirdo, and you are reading this...just know that I have bodyguards hidden behind every bush, and it would be very very stupid of you to try to touch me.

#4 I'm going to get run over by a car. I always let cars have a lot of room. I run in the weeds in the ditch when a car is coming toward me. I know in this world of cell phones, ipods, gps systems, etc., people can be distracted, and I don't want to die running. Well, maybe when I'm 99, I could die running, but not now.

#5 I'm going to fall and break something and I won't be able to get home. Okay, I'm stretching now. But I had a long time to think while I was running, so I had to make up fears.

Now I've totally told all of you things that I wouldn't normally tell, all in the name of sharing my running experiences. Please tell me you've had the same things happen to you too....I can't be the only one!

Running AGAIN

So, I get all ready to run this morning, and Mr. Blue Eyes* says, "You're going running AGAIN?" I don't know why he hasn't realized yet that I run 4 or 5 days a week. Which means there aren't a lot of days off. Of course I have to run today, because I probably won't run tomorrow, and I have to get that 20 miles in this week. (I don't get 20 in every week, but if I'm close...I can't let it slip by!) My poor husband does run, but hasn't found the joy in it yet. So, I'm thinking this morning, as I'm running my 3.8, what makes the difference between loving it, and doing it because you have to? I think a lot of it is WHY you run. Mr. Blue Eyes runs because he want to lose weight. I run because I'm a runner. I don't know how that change takes place, but I'm just glad I'm there. And I'm glad Mr. Blue Eyes is running. Maybe someday the running bug will bite him in the butt.

Call Me a Prude

Okay, I'm mad. I saw that nifty little "next blog" button on the top left corner of my blog, and thought, "Hmm...I wonder what other people are writing blogs about. That would be interesting to see." So, I click...and it's porn galore. We're not talking girls in skimpy bikinis either. Full blown nasty porn. Now, if people want to look at porn, that's their decision, but the thing that makes me mad, is that it is ONE CLICK off of MY blog page! What if my sweet grandma is reading my blog because she loves me and wants to know what's going on in my life....and she sees that button and thinks that maybe it's even MY next blog, and clicks on it. This is not okay with me that someone can get to a porn site directly from my blog. Can I get that button off? Somebody help me!

Amy's Blog

Yes, Amy, for you I will dedicate an ENTIRE post. This funny mom/runner is one of my inspirations for starting a blog. Not that I could EVER in a million years be as funny... well, you just need to go check it out for yourself, if you haven't already. I'd have to say one of my favorite posts was A Slip of the Tongue, from June 4th. There are so many funny ones, though....

Just go look. Now. I said NOW!

It Doesn't Get Better Than This

What a great day! It's the first day back to school for my kids. I have to admit, I am NOT one of the moms who shed a tear when her wee sweet ones get on the bus that first day. No, I'm the mom who puts her three holy terrors on the bus, can't wipe a grin off her face, and plans the party!! Now, don't get me wrong. I really do love my kids, and on occasion they have shown that they can be sweet... but summers are WAY too long. The kids....okay, let's be honest, I need the structure that comes from the kids being at school. I need to be able to have a moment where nobody is telling me they're hungry, and I need to be able to clean something in my house and have it stay that way for at least 5 minutes.

So, that brings me right to the point where I wave goodbye as my kids get on the bus. I laced up my running shoes and got to run 8.3 miles in the light! not at 5 a.m.! in nice cool weather! in 1:18:02! It felt fantastic. It's my longest run since I ran my 1/2 marathon LAST August.

Well, it's time for me to begin my First Day of School Party. Anyone want to join me? No kids allowed!!!

Rest Day

Great! My first post about running...and it's a rest day today. I didn't know if it was going to be a rest day or not, but it turned out to be one. School starts for the kids tomorrow, and I just could not give up my last day of sleeping in. I haven't been able to sleep in all summer, because of teaching 7:00 a.m. violin lessons, so this week has been luxury. I did run Monday and Tuesday, so I'm not totally slacking here!

Steve Runner made me do it!

If any of you runners out there listen to Phedippidations, you might have heard the episode on running and blogging. So, Steve, you've inspired me to write down some things about running. I don't know how it will go, or how often I'll actually post in here, but hey, it's a start, right?
