I'm a Good Mom... a Tale of Diet Pepsi

Before you read this post, you have to promise me that you'll finish to the end.... I know you'll be tempted to say, she's a horrible mom! and immediately quit reading, but then you'll miss the good part. With that introduction, I'll begin my tale of a good mom.

We went to the big Jarvis family Christmas party on Saturday, and received a 6pack of diet pepsi (20 oz. bottles) from one of Brandon's sweet aunts. (We'll leave her name out to protect her, since this is all her fault.) My kids really really really wanted to share in that gift, and I thought, well, it probably won't kill them to have a bottle of caffeine once in their lives. So, being the good mom that I am, I gave them each their own, which they drank ALL of in one afternoon. Then comes bedtime... and 9:00... and 9:30... and 10:00... and 10:30... and Cooper is still awake. He finally went to sleep, but that's not the end of the story.

At 6:00 a.m. I heard a noise... it was Cooper walking around the house. I called him into my bedroom, and he's completely dressed, to the shoes. Now, you'd have to know Cooper to know that this is something that NEVER happens. It's usually 5 minutes before they have to leave for school and I'm begging him to get out of his pajamas! He told me he had been up since 5:30, and got dressed, and was ready for school. I made him take his shoes off and lay next to me, and we talked for a minute. He said, "Mom, I didn't get ANY sleep last night." I said, "Coop, do you know why? It's because of all of that caffeine that you drank. That's why mom and dad tell you not to drink it, because it messes up what your body and brain are supposed to do." Cooper said, "I know, and I don't want to drink it again."

See?? Now all along you thought I was a horrible mom, but look at what he learned... finally a child of mine actually learns something from experience! I do feel sorry for his teacher today, but hopefully it will be a lasting lesson, and hopefully he'll have a GOOD night's sleep tonight!

you are so not a bad mom. I bet all your kids with tasting DP for the first time are hooked like me..... =)

Morgan has stopped taking naps since the summer and the other day I caught her trying to fall asleep on the couch, now no big deal accept she does not fall asleep at bed time and ends up staying up till 11. SO I woke her and I had just cracked open a nice fresh, cold, yummy Diet Pepsi for me to drink and I told her if she would get off the couch and come to the kitchen I would let her have alittle. It was maybe a half a cup, like in the measuring cup. She was up till 11 that night.

BTW~ I was in Utah and I went Running twice while in Vernal. I wanted to call you but both times I was up and out the door by 7 am. Next time we for sure need to run together.

If that makes you a horrible mom, than I am the devil. My kids drink caffiene every so often, but it doesn't seem to affect them. The one nice thing about your story was that he was up and ready! Nice!! You are a very good mom, from what I see/read anyway! I don't think you have anything to worry about!

So funny, and something to remember for future reference. I am glad you guys were able to make it to the party. I am a little jealous though. Well anyways...we love you guys.

Awesome!

Did you see the article in the Ensign this month on caffeine? Show Cooper the picture of the spider webs, and he'll NEVER forget it. That's what I see now whenever there's a Dr. Pepper calling my name.

Hehehehehe...I love it! Maybe he needs a capfull poured into his mouth when you want him to get up for school! Just kidding. My kids drink Mountain Dew with their dad, but they have since they were little so it doesn't really change the fact that they are up and ready to go in the morning. You are an awsome mom with some wonderful "life lessons" for you kids. Nothing wrong with that!

So what does that say about me that as I'm reading it all I'm wondering when the bad mom part comes in!? All things in moderation I say....by the way....sam's christmas list has 'one 12 pack of moutain dew'....the child actually wasted one of his gifts on mountain dew!....so my child!
