I know this post is gloom and doom, but really, we're okay. I'm thrilled to be able to use my plumbing again, and I will be thrilled to have a new kitchen floor... you all know how hideous it is. I was telling a dear friend my woes, and she said that somehow they made her feel better. See, that alone is almost worth going through this crap! I love to ease the burdens from others' lives, even if just a little bit! We will figure out a way to have Christmas... I'm thinking Little House on the Prairie style... a shiny penny, a candy stick, and some mittens. Oh, and the tin cup!

The Grinch Stole Christmas
The plumbers just came to assess our leakage problem in the kitchen. The "home warranty" that was purchased when we bought the house doesn't cover ANY of it (surprise surprise). Apparently they'll cover plumbing problems, but not if the pipes are rusty, or corroded, or too small, or hindered by tree roots. Those are the problems we've encountered so far... none of which have been covered. They also don't cover roof leaks, or anything caused by snow, wind, rain, age, bad construction, etc. I think they should make a booklet... wait, no... a post-it note with everything they DO cover written on it, instead of a booklet with what they don't. This warranty is seriously a joke. Anyway, it'll be $750 just to fix the pipes so we can wash dishes and use the sink in the kitchen and the bathroom again. That doesn't even touch fixing the buckled floor, the giant hole in the wall they cut to get to the pipes, or a new dishwasher. The moral of this story is: do not buy silly home warranties when you buy a house. They are worthless pieces of sh*&. Also, do not think that you just might have money for Christmas... the grinch hears these thoughts, and finds a way to take it away! ;)

Mindy, I am so sorry! It does help to hear that others have trials too...kind of a bad way to feel better huh?! But, it just helps us remember that we are here for those little "test"!
I'm so sorry for all your plumbing issues. If it's not one thing...it's twenty others.
We had a little issue with a mercury spill (from a broken thermostat) that got vacuummed all through our apartment. When we needed to buy a new vacuum, and replace the carpet...did our renter's insurance come through??? Oh, no. They managed to find a clause about chemicals, so a mercury spill could not be covered.
I agree with you on the post-it note thing. They'd probably have extra room, too.
Way to look at the positive...at least you'll get your new kitchen floor for Christmas, although I'm not sure your kids will be quite as thrilled.
Oh I am sorry. House repairs are the worst. It is just so much funner to buy new clothes or something. I am sure Christmas will work out one way or another though!
Sorry to hear about your house trials! I hope it get resolved Quickly for you! I see nothing wrong with the Little House on the Prairie Christmas. I think that's something we should all do regardless of our circumstances! I'm really trying to figure out how to really scale it all down anyway.
Oh stink! I am so sorry. Here I have been complaining to Jake all month about how our dishwasher only works occasionally and you have to get a whole new kitchen. I am sorry. Its seems to work that way though...you only think you are going to have money, but any extra usually goes somewhere else. I know that you guys are great at making anything awesome though so I know you will still have a great Christmas. We will be thinking of you and praying for you all.
Yikes! That's frustrating. I'll send you a new tin cup. (you'll make a great Caroline Ingalls--she's one of my heroes!)
How 'bout those homemade slippers?;)
Know that there is always a home in poky for you to escape to....even though it might have some of its own wear and tear... we love yall....keep smilin
I know it won't make you feel better, but my Christmas is newly installed in the the front of my car in the form of a new a/c and under my car on the form of breaks and tires.
Blah. Ba-humbug. :)
Am excited to see an after picture! How exciting will that be!@
At least you get a new kitchen floor. That almost makes it worth it, right?
that damn Grinch just knows how to work it..... sometimes I like to call him satan. =)
That is the downer of owning your own home-if it needs fixed, it comes out of your pocket!:( I am excited to see the new floor though. How about you put up the kids Christmas list on here and then we can help come up with some creative ways to make them, or something. Hope there aren't anymore plumbing problems. Have a great day anyway,Love ya!!
I am having a competition with myself to see how LITTLE I can spend.. so far I'm winning!! {$0 spent!} The grinch stole all our money too!
Sorry! My kids are young enough that they're happy with a bike salvaged from Grampa's shed! Hope yours turns out magical!!
I don't think the Grinch just stole money from Christmas time, her robbed us all for a very long time. We are on a very tight Christmas budget as well, not as tight as Leslie's but tight non the less. I think Christmas has gotten too commercialized anyways. My kids are getting slimmed back now so when they are older and only get a couple of gifts it will just feel like normal.
mindy, i just love you. i love your sense of humor plus you have a way of making my life not seem so bad. but i still ache for your woes. christmas is going to be so small this year and i am loving the thought of it. all growing up we had homemade gifts...it isn't just drivel to say that those were the most meaningful gifts & christmases. it's time to get back to the basics.
Oh darnit, that Grinch is such a pain! I'm going to tell you something that Sue told me last December after Matt had just been fired three weeks before Christmas (talk about BAH HUMBUG!!): Christmas is not about presents, it's about memories. Your kids won't remember what they got, but they will remember that you spent time together and celebrated all the joy of the season. So get planning and and have the best Little House Christmas ever!
Love ya!
Oh I'm sorry about all the repairs! I had a home warranty once, and it actually covered the dishwasher repair we needed. I was so confused when before they started they asked for $65. I guess it's like a "co-pay"...I think the part cost less than that. But needless to say I won't ever buy one again, they sure don't cover much!
I think a Little House on the Prairie style Christmas sounds lovely, nothing to pick up when we're done! :)
