All in Fun, OR Time to Get Pepper Spray?

I had an... interesting? experience today on my 6 mile run. I never felt like I was really in danger, but I did have some scary thoughts going through my head. So, tell me... should I be scared?

I'm running along a fairly well-traveled road, and all of a sudden I sense a truck driving along right behind me, very slowly. I ignored it for a minute, then glanced over. 2 guys were in the truck, and when I looked they kind of laughed. I just kept running. After a minute, driver guy (the only one who talked) said,

"We're just running security for you."

Me: "I'm fine". (I wave goodbye.)

Guy: "Oh, I know."

I run on, trying to ignore them, thinking, "Where in the heck are any other cars? Where are any other people? What if this guy just jumps out of his truck and grabs me?" It felt like FOREVER that we went along like that. Then the guy says something, but I didn't hear what, so I ignored it. Then, again...

"Are you married?"

Me: "Yes!" and a brilliant afterthought comes out of my mouth, "And I have THREE KIDS."

They drove off.

You should probably just stop running altogether.

Pepper spray good idea...even if they were just being funny people like that should be sprayed. I would have freaked out. Glad you are okay.

well, I have to be honest. I admit if i were in a situation like that I'd want you there with me because you are tough enough that you may make out ok without any pepper spray. But it never hurts to have some I guess.

creepy! I'm glad you are okay. What jerks. Next time a healthy dose of pepper spray should do the trick...or a punch to the face.

I'm thinking pepper spray or a high volt taser gun, You could have a little holster so they would be readily available.

Or you could just run with all 3 of your kids... :) That would certainly keep them away! jk

ummm, living in Vernal all my life...I think it is just some guys out girl searching and hoping you weren't married and would stoop low enough to give them a chance. I would have been scared too though.

I think you need to carry pepper spray since I am not there to proctect you... he he ;)

That link is to a pepper spray that you strap on your hand, it is made for running. I had lost it on a run, need a new one. It really isn't to annoying to run with and the security of just having it with you is worth the investment. I miss running with you. I havent started running on the roads yet, they kind of scare me out here. No shoulder and the speed limit is like 55. So I am just running on the treadmill at the YMCA.

That would scare me if that happened to me! I, too, am glad you're OK.

Erin, I used to think I was tough... I took karate and everything. Then Brandon told me to use some self-defense moves on him... I was completely and utterly useless! He pinned me in 2 seconds flat, and there was nothing I could do about it! There is strength in numbers, though, so I'd love to be with you!

Tara, ha! I love the holster idea. Maybe I could get one custom made that holds my phone, ipod, water, taser, lunch... ;)

Rachel... that would work... if I didn't kill myself first! ;)

Janice, that pepper spray looks good... and not too expensive. I'll have to get some. I WISH you were here with me! I was just running up 500 N, like we did a bunch of times. Your roads would scare me too, but how are you ever going to train for your marathons on a treadmill? I would die!

Lisa, I have to admit, I've laughed a little about it too... after the fact.

Haley and V, I didn't get a really good look at them, since I was trying to avoid giving them attention, but I would guess about 30, and clean shaven, so not creepy looking... just creepy acting. Maybe I should wear granny dresses while I run or something. ;)

Nothing like kids to be a sudo pepper spray! Scary!!! You should get pepper spray....or come to the gym and hang out with ME!!!! ;) I hate that feeling. I've had similiar experiences in "safe" st. george before I had kids. I hate that feeling!

I think a tazer (sp?) sounds like a good ideal. HELLO! This is Vea. Your mom got me onto your blog. It is great. We are more alike than you would ever imagine. Keep up the great stuff. I will now have to doctor up my blog so it looks like I know what I'm doing.
Love ya.

Scary!! I would have called Brandon or 911...I freak out way easy! You do look a lot younger than you are, so I am sure they just thought they were using some super cool pick up line. So how long did it take you to get up to running your 6 miles?

this is coming from a cops wife. if they do that again you get their license plate # and call the cops! seriously. we just had a neighbor out here with a similar situation and when dave found him he had a record and a warrant. ya have to be careful.
i'm a little paranoid and very cynical when it comes the the men after hearing all of the bad stuff i hear.

Yeah I would be worried, especially since it was 2 guys. Bad things do happen to people, and this is the type of scenario where it does.
